The History of Piston Ported: Part 1

1945

Piston Ported started shortly after the end of WWII in St. Paul, Minnesota. Our original business was tire retreading, which is the process of removing the worn out tread from tires and gluing a new tread onto them. Tires wore out quickly back then as they were made from 100% natural rubber so retreading was a common business; and business was good.

1952

In 1952 we retreaded our first scooter tire, a Powell Streamliner. It was an anemic thing and although archaic, we were mystified by this new contraption. We immediately went all in and became the #1 scooter retreading service in North America. Ads for our retreading service could be found in issues of Scooter and Pulp Magazines of the era.

It was around this time that P-Nut starting writing his own Pulp stories starring none other than himself. These strange and confusingly erotic tales got quite an underground following by those on the fringes of society.

1955

In 1955 we ordered an Allstate Vespa from the Sears Catalog and we knew from that point on, nothing was ever going to be the same again. We could no longer spend our days slinging skins onto tires or patching tubes. These machines were refined and deserved new replacement tires when they wore out and we were there to comply.

It was also during this time that P-Nut began modeling for print advertisements, something he still does to this day.

1958

We acquired a Lambretta Series 1 LI150 this year and began producing a full line of parts and accessories to support them.

We also founded the Dirt Squirters in 1958, which is world renowned recreational offroad scooter club that is still active today.
